On day one of the Online News Association’s (ONA) 15th conference, not surprisingly, the wifi was under assault. That’s what happens when hundreds of digital journalists meet a shortage of broadband. Attendees who could tweet shared their frustrations, presumably from their cell phones.
With ONA celebrating its 15th anniversary it’s obvious that they’re not new to putting on a tech-focused conference; they know the demands of their constituency – attendees want working, robust wifi so that they can distribute their shareable content – things like quotes and images from panels and workshops.
At the conclusion of the opening keynote, Jane McDonald, executive director of ONA quipped: “We’ve already broken the Internet.” She acknowledged that they were working on the problem.
